詞源詞根法
在古代日耳曼人生活的北歐區域,山毛櫸是當地最常見的樹種,因此古代日耳曼人使用山毛櫸作為書寫的材料。他們把山毛櫸削成一片一片的木片,在木片上刻字(Rune,如尼文,古代日耳曼文字),這就是他們最早的“書”。所以,英語單詞book(書)與beech(山毛櫸)同源。單詞book在古英語中拼寫為boc,它源自日耳曼語bokiz,意思就是“山毛櫸”。在德語中,表示“書”(book)的單詞是buch,表示“山毛櫸”(beech)的單詞是buche。這也是日耳曼人用山毛櫸作為書寫材料的證據。=book[b?k]n圖書,書籍vt.預訂,登記=beech[bi?t?]n山毛櫸
